Meet the Team

Flip Wilken

Managing Director

Flip has been actively involved in Public Relations and marketing for more than 40 years, and has served on the top management of companies such as Toyota South Africa and McCarthy Retail.
Prior to starting Wilken Communication in 1997, Flip enjoyed a rewarding 30 years in the motor industry. In 1969 Flip joined Datsun as marketing trainee and in 1974 he left sales, promotions and public relations manager.   
Flip transferred to Electra Television and Appliance (Telefunken) in 1975 to assist in launching television in South Africa. After three years, he returned to Datsun Nissan as Public Relations Manager. 

1988 saw Flip taking on additional challenges, when he was appointed General Manager for Public Affairs at Toyota South Africa, a position he held until 1996 when he joined McCarthy Retail as Public Affairs Executive. Here Flip was also appointed as Director of Prefcor Holdings Limited and of McCarthy Motor Holdings. Flip remained with McCarthy until August 1997 when he decided to spread his wings and fly solo.

Jacques Wilken

Director Operations

Jacques completed an International Diploma in Marketing as well as Marketing Strategy from the Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) in 1998. Jacques has been with Wilken Communication Management since its inception (1997) and is currently Operations Director. 

During his career thus far he has worked with various brands and projects, ranging from new product launches (over 100 media launches for various brands), media fleet management, new brand introductions & development, dealer development projects, advertising planning and development, publication development (public and corporate), promotion & publicity strategies and innovative marketing and publicity programmes.

Charl Wilken

Director Special Projects

Charl completed an International Diploma in Marketing from the Institute for Marketing Management (IMM) in 1996.  Charl has been with Wilken Communication since its inception in 1997, and is responsible for client liaison, writing of technical and automotive-specific material and special project stretgies and management.

The annual Gumtree Used Car Awards and the newly launched Wesbank Fuel Economy Tour in partnesrship with FNB is just a few of the special projects Charl has developed and is responsible for.

He is also a professional rally driver and in 2008 Charl raced to his 13th motorsport title in 17 years by winning the 2009 Production Car Championship in his all-wheel-drive Subaru Impreza.
